Cardio training consists of exercises that exercise the heart and cardio system. These exercises include: Running, Bicycling and Swimming. Other good cardio exercises include playing sports such as: Tennis, Basketball and Soccer. Using Treadmill, Stair Stepper and Bicycle machines are also good cardio exercises. Cardio exercise is the best way to burn fat off of your body. It will speed up your metabolism and increase your energy and endurance. As with any type of exercise, it is important to stretch and warm up first.

RUNNING, BICYCLING & SWIMMING: To get the most out of these kinds of exercises, it is important to use the PROGRESSIVE TRAINING METHOD. (See the Training Principals page for a full explanation of progressive training.) Always try to progress with your training. Try to run or swim or bicycle farther and faster than you did in your previous workout. Get a stopwatch or a watch with a stopwatch on it and time yourself. Keep track of your time and constantly try to improve. It is also important to use the CYCLICAL TRAINING METHOD. (See the Training Principals page for a full explanation of cyclical training. A good way to get a good cardio workout is to swim one day and run or bicycle the next. Alternate the two every other day for a six or eight week period.

SPORTS: The best way to get the most out of a sport is to learn as much as you can about how to play the game, (Taking lessons is a good idea) and then try as hard as you can to win. If you are playing tennis, go after every single ball. Never give up. Play with a variety of people that are at or above your own skill level. Always try to win. You will have fun because you will be improving your skill and you will be getting good exercise, even when you lose.

MACHINES: Treadmill machines, Stair Stepper machines and Cycling machines can be a good alternative to running and bicycling. When the weather is bad outside, you can still get a good workout indoors by using these machines. Another advantage of using these machines is that they are low impact. They are not hard on your legs like running can be. These machines can be programmed to give a good variety of workout intensity. Start out with an easy program and increase the intensity little by little with each workout. Use PROGRESSIVE TRAINING and CYCLICAL TRAINING. (See the Training Principals page.)
